Encylopedia of Science Fiction

Via Tor, the third edition of the Encyclopedia of Science Fiction will be available online, and for free. the first two editions were released only as books, and, obviously, weren’t free.

Patrick Nielsen Hayden writes:

Both previous editions of the Encyclopedia Galactica of SF were outstanding (and immeasurably useful!) works of scholarship, so it’s great to hear that most of the third edition will be available soon, and for free.

Note the reference to the Encyclopedia Galactica of Isaac Asimov’s science fiction masterpiece, Foundation. I love the entire Foundation series, in point of fact. I’ll probably be doing a post about it in the not-so-distant future.

All-in-all, I’d say that this is excellent news. For poor geeks like me who still find themselves trapped in the morass of the education system, a free version of the Encyclopedia of Science Fiction is awesome. I can’t wait to start reading it.
